USCB Students Work on National TV Show
For viewers of South Carolina ETV’s By the River, the finished product is a seamless blend of thoughtful conversations, compelling storytelling and polished production. Behind the scenes, however, a team of dedicated USC Beaufort students is helping bring the weekly literary television program to life while gaining valuable hands-on experience in media and communications.
Their work as production assistants, social media content creators and more lets them apply classroom learning in a professional environment while developing skills that will serve them long after graduation.
Under the guidance of Dr. Caroline Sawyer, executive producer of By the River and USCB associate professor of Communication Studies, and Holly Bounds Jackson, the show's host students are immersed in the fast-paced world of television production. The experience not only strengthens their résumés but also provides a front-row seat to the collaborative effort required to create a successful broadcast program.
USCB's Leia Aldrich is one of a select group of student production assistants gaining real-world experience on the television show "By The River." Aldrich, who is from Moncks Corner, SC, will graduate in May 2022 with a B.A. in Communication Studies. As part of this co-production by South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) and USCB, she has worked as a student producer.
Aubrey Cassidy is a student production assistants from Dacula, Ga., who will graduate in May 2022 with a B.A. in Studio Art.
Sophia Peach is a student production assistant from Cumming, Ga. She will graduate in May 2022 with a B.A. in Communication Studies. As part of this co-production by South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) and USCB, she has worked as a content creator.
Jeremy Smalls is a student production assistant from Beaufort. He will graduate in May 2022 with a B.A. in Communication Studies. Smalls has worked as a camera operator on "By The River."
